HttpCookie.Expire is always {1/1/1}

I created my cookies as described in the below article, but the
cookie's expiration date is always {1/1/1} the next time the web page
is accessed. After that point, closing the browser natually causes the
cookie to be deleted and then I have to recreate the cookie all over
again. Does anyone have a clue as to why?
