Adding a search tool to your website

I want to add a straight forward search tool to a website that searches the
text on each page.
My pages are based on a master page. How could I do this (in summary!)?
I don't really want a google/etc logo on the site so I supposed writing my
own mechanism is the way to go.

Not sure if there are any code eaxmples out there to get me started?
