Portal functionality with ASP.Net 2.0

Could anyone with some skinning experience in vs2005 tell me if the
master pages and themes capabilities of ASP.Net 2.0 makes it viable to
use for creating a portal.

I want to upgrade an existing 1.1 site and serve up pages with a
different look & feel based on hostnames - instead of copying the
existing website and making a new one for each client who wants to use
our features.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that should be possible. You can set themes and master pages
programatically at runtime, so you could do this based on the current
hostname. You can also set them in the web.config file, which might be
a better approach, just give each of your sites its own config
settings.
