XML Parsing Error

I've got a site I'm working on that works fine using the VS2005
internal browser. I need to test it from another machine on the
network, so I set up a new virtual directory in IIS (on Windows XP
SP2) and copied the site into it. I get the error:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed

This happens on the Page directive at the top of the Default.aspx
page.

I've read about the "aspnet_regiis -i" fix and tried that to no avail.
The odd thing is, there is another virtual directory, same machine,
that has an older ASP.Net 2 application in it and it works ok. The
IIS settings are identical between the two virtual directories (except
for the application name) and the Windows permissions on the folders
are also identical.

If I copy the contents of the virtual directory that works into the
new virtual directory I still get the error. I also backed up the one
that worked and copied the new site into it, and it works fine in the
older virtual directory.

So there is something odd with the new virtual directory that's
keeping ASP.Net from running in it, and I'm at a loss to figure out
what it is.
