remap all graphic files to different server on-the-fly?

Is it possible to write some sort of http handler that would intercept all
requests for graphic files and flash (swf and flv) and map them to a different
domain with the same directory structure?

This way, I could have the largest files (some of them 20 meg) located on a
very fast server, but have the web site run locally off my server.
