how do you insert normalized data with the controls?

Hello,

I tried to use a DetailsView control to allow me to view, edit, delete,
and add records. The data I want to view requires a join of two
tables. I created a view that brought together all the data I wanted
to access into one table. I can use it to view the data, however I
can't get DetailsView to automatically generate the update, insert, or
delete functionality like it normally does. Does this only work on
data in a single table?
