Just search on "ASP.NET" "Progress Page"
or just

"ASP.NET" Progress

and you'l find dozens of sample implementations.

Check the samples for Chapter 3 :

http://www.daveandal.net/books/6744/samples.aspx

They're written for ASP.NET 1.1...but should work for 2.0, too.
