About DataList

I read some reference, which tell me if I want to active DataList
control's event, such as select, I must use some controls which have
"CommandName" property, like linkButton, Button and ImageButton. But through
my test, only linkButton can active the DataList control's event when I make
the "CommandName" equal "select", and Button or ImageButton can't do this,
why?
If anyone ever use it, tell me how to do this by using ImageButton,
