UPDATE commands never work

Is it just me or is anyone else having issue with sql UPDATE commands
on the new data controls? I'm testing, everything works, then I add
some code to the back end to rebind the data in the gridview after an
update is made in details view, and poof...update quits. I comment out
the newly added code, but no go. I delete the data source, re do it
and it works. I think the data keys are being deleted, but I'm not
being prompted to approve of a deletion. A few times it worked without
me changing anything...on a random rebuild. Is there a bug here?
