Friends,
Our ASP.NET application isn't just a web site, it is a product. We
distribute it using a typical MSI installation on a CD, and our customers
install it on a web server. So, "deployment" to us might not be typical.
When we deploy new version, we need to update, or remove or do whatever is
necessary to make target machines correct and operational. We prefer to
deal with know DLL and file names.
Anyway, we now use .NET 2.0 and are rebuilding the distribution. We
certainly don't want source code revealed, so we'll precompile. There a
variety of "publish" options for our solution, but none seem exactly what we
want. The closest seems to be the one that creates files that all have
"cdcab7d2" in the name. At least the "cdcab7d2" does not change with each
compile.
Is this "cdcab7d2" something that is ASP.NET version dependent? What does
it mean, anything? Is this "cdcab7d2" likely to change? Can I eliminate it
from DLL names?
Any thoughts, words, or links will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in
advance,
James
