can pages inherit from a template page

I am new to dotnet and i am wanting to create an asp.net site. I have
created a page that i will use as a basis for my other pages. I have
converted some old inc files into user controls and imported them and i have
my page looking how i want it.

basically my page has an header, a left hand menu, some images on the right
and a bottom signature. In the middle of this is my main content. How could
i get it so that future pages use inherit from the template but so that i can
put my main content into the page area.

If this could be done it would help me no end as it is for the intranet at
my work place

thanks in advance for any help
