framework 2.0 install fails or is slow on 2k?

I'm attempting to install the 2.0 framework on a win2k machine and it's
taking forever. (1 hour+) I'm currently waiting for the cancel to complete
and i will try to restart and hope nothing got nuked.

Sophos anti virus is installed, cold fusion MX, sqlserver 2000.
Has anone else had this kind of problem installing framework 2.0?
PLEASE let me know what you did.

I had a similar experience on one of our Windows 2000 servers (so far
only on one). The first time, it seemed to be installing without any
problems, then Microsoft Update indicated the installation failed but
didn't provide any specifics about why. I acknowledged the error,
closed IE and went back to the Microsoft Update site to try it again.

This time, it seemed to go further than it did before, but after
letting it sit there for probably around an hour or hour and a half, I
hit the Cancel button, figuring it got stuck for some reason. There
was no indication about how far along the installation had gone. The
cancellation didn't appear to cause any problems.

Like you, I was going to reboot the server and try it again, but I
haven't tried it yet. This particular machine is not one that's
"mission critical" for much of anything, so I haven't been losing
sleep over it.

Have you tried reinstalling yet? If so, how did it go?

thanks for responding
i disabled the sophos anti-virus and re-ran after a re-boot
this time it took about 5 min or so and completed without error. i have no
idea what else could have caused the problem. I hope this helps
