We're at 2.0!

Visual Studio and SQL Server 2005 were just released to MSDN Subscribers !

The bits for the redistributable .Net Framework 2.0
should be publicly available soon at the Download Center :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/s...displaylang=en

See the official announcement at : http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/

Thanks for the heads up. Are there any special instructions for how to go
from RC to the final version? For instance there were certain steps that had
to be followed when going from Beta 2 to RC, so I'm wondering if again
there's special uninstall order?

After installing the final VS.NET 2005 will that contain the redistributable
for the .NET 2.0 framework? If so, where would I find it after installing?
I'd rather not wait for the redistributable to be publicly posted so I can
put it on a test box now (without installing VS 2005 on the text box).

Also does anyone know what changed between the RC build and the final?

Thanks,

Steve

re:

No problem this time around.
What you mention was a Beta 1 --> Beta 2 problem.

All you'll need to do is *fully* uninstall Beta 2, or later
if you had installed a later version, and install the release.

Mind you, that *full* uninstall includes Mobile SQL, etc.
Anything you need to uninstall will be listed in "Add/Remove Windows Programs".

re: After installing the final VS.NET 2005 will that contain the redistributable for the

Yes. It will be the first item installed.

re: Also does anyone know what changed between the RC build and the final?
Changes from Beta 2 to RTM are listed at :
http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/be...s/default.aspx

Have fun !

Yes. It will be the first item installed.

Do you know where in the file structure it is installed and what the
filename/installer is called?

BTW, is anyone else having problems downloading from the MSDN site? I
haven't been able to even start the download. I press on the Download Now
button and the browser just spins for a few minutes, followed by a message
that says a problem occured and to contact customer service.

re:

It will be installed in
drive:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

re: and what the filename/installer is called?
dotnetfx.exe

It will be located in :
drive:\VStudioInstallDirectory\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapp er\Packages\dotnetfx
once you've installed Visual Studio 2005.

re: BTW, is anyone else having problems downloading from the MSDN site?

heh, heh...

That's why Curt said : "There goes the bandwidth".
Every single MSDN subscriber is trying to d/l right now.

Even Microsoft's mammoth bandwidth facilities will get overloaded
with millions of subscribers trying to download multi-gigabyte files.

;-)
