Is there an HTML tag or other method (besides a graphics file) of putting a
circle or square around a character/number? E.g.. A circle around the
number 4 to indicate a birdie on a par 5, or a square around a 3 to indicate
eagle. Are these fonts possible?
Thanks.

If you want cross platform compatiblity, I would use a graphics file.

It wont be a font issue (the user would need the font anyway).
Look at graphical approach perhaps.... There aren't that many combinations,
maybe combining images on the fly too...

Thanks. This will only be an IE page. The b page will only ever be
displayed on one machine in one location. I'll have to take a look at the
graphics approach I guess.

While possible, it may be painful.

You can use CSS and absolute positioning to achieve these effects. For
example, output the number 4, then output the character O in such a way so
that it is on top of the number 4, and so that its font size is set large
enough to surround the number 4.

Similar tricks can be used for the number 3 and the character | and -.

Alternatively, for the square, you could just use the SPAN or DIV tags
with the CSS "border" attribute.

Probably easier to just use graphics.
