Last time I checked, the existing one's were not tied to any specific

Not the ones on this server, no.

Although technically the ones at
http://forums.asp.net/default.aspx?ForumGroupID=26
are forums and not "newsgroups", at least they qualify
as discussion places for DOTNET 2.0.
