General Development Question

I'm sure this condition is common. What is the best way to handle it.

I retrieve a recordset with a specific criteria, for example, a listing
of cars that are red. I bind this list to the repeater. When ever any
functionality is called within the repeater (buttons, links, image
buttons) , the repeater is re loaded with its data from the view state.
Within the repeater is the ability to alter the current cars color. So
if i change a car's color to blue from red, that car no longer fits
within the criteria of the desired results, but it is included because
its in the repeaters viewstate. This can be solved by re binding the
repeater, but then that row is no longer there to present some message
stating that the cars color was changed because it doesn't fit the
requested criteria. Is there some generally accepted way of handling
this situation?
