System.Xml namespace, best use of XmlTextWriter

With all the new classes available in the System.Xml namespace I often find
myself wondering what the best method is for certain tasks. I'm trying to
stay away from the heavy XmlDocument, it seems the other classes were
created to provide better alternatives. Many times, I find myself wanting
to create an in-memory Xml string that I do NOT want to persist to a file or
write to a context or stream. I like the XmlTextWriter, but since it needs
one of these in it's constructor, I don't know how or if I can use it to
quickly construct an Xml string. TIA
