Hello all.
I have an on-going problem with ASP.NET and my .NET library on my IIS 5.0
server.
I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server on a hosted machine and at one point,
my host renamed the machine name - since then, I've had problems with ASP.NET
and permissions.
My server goes on for some time with no glitch and then it spews out about
40 - 50 Event Log errors that "aspnet_wp.exe could not be started", until
finally the entire server crashes in a matter of an hour.
I've tried to un-install / re-install both the .NET library and the HotFix
patch for .NET. I have also, at one point, gone as far as removing the .NET
files from my hard-drive and registry. I also changed all references to the
old machine name, from any registry key, to reflect the new machine name.
I found some articles regarding this error, which specifies to change the
application anonymous user to ASPNET user. I have done this as well.
I am at a complete loss here!
Can anyone help? I would appreciate any feedback.
Thank you all in advance for all your help!!

Have you tried completely removing IIS and reinstalling it?

at one point, yes. But before I un-installed / re-installed the .NET lib.
do you think this would solve the problem?
1. uninstall and remove .NET lib.
2. uninstall IIS
3. re-install .NET / HotFix
4. re-install IIS

Post some of the entries in the Event log maybe that will lead to a
solution.
About your 4-step plan: do you have anything to loose ? Meaning why not try
it... But I woul switch steps 3 and 4, first install IIS and then .NET
framework + hotfixes
