The only way to ensure the application will run with different browsers is
to test it with different browsers.
As a general rule of thumb, try to keep the HTML as simple and generic as
possible. Try to stay away from the more modern HTML techniques (like CSS
and absolute positioning) if you can to preserve cross browser
compatability. Javascript also has compatability issues, so avoid it when
you can and test it thoroughly when you must.
Also, you can detect the browser and spit out different code for particular
browsers if you need to.
