Using a Web Service to Update ASP.NET Web Form

Is it possible to write both an ASP.NET application (with both .aspx and
..ascx files) and a web server that is referrenced by the ASP.NET app such
that a web form or any user controls on the web form are continually and
automatically updated with data from the web service without having to do a
complete postback/round-trip to the server?

Whew! That may sound complicated or confusing, but any help and/or
references would be appreciated.

If you want code in the browser to hit the webservice you'll need to do it
with javascript and use the XmlHttp object to make your SOAP requests to
the server. I think there's a javascript library out there to help with this
and I think this is it (I've not used it myself):
