ASP.NET Version Mismatch

I've installed Visual Studio 2003, Framework 1.1 SDK, etc.

I still get the following error when trying to open the first example in
Microsoft Press "ASP.NET Programming with Microsoft Visual C# .NET Step by
Step" by Duthie.

Visual Studio .NET has detected that the Web server is running ASP.NET
version 1.0. The Web application you are creating or opening can be
configured to be compliant with ASP.NET 1.0. However, the application will
not be able to use new features from ASP.NET 1.1.

I thought I had installed ASP.NET 1.1. What is wrong?

Help will be much appreciated,
Gary

I am getting this message but it is not due to any .net configuration
problem. We have a new 50meg internet pipe so I pointed my gateway to the new
firewall which is on a different subnet. I have killer internet connection
since no one else is on the fiber line, but Visual Studio gives me that error
when I attempt to login to an external web host. I also have a problem
because Visual Studio automatically logs into CodeXchange and it will not do
that when going through that line. Can anyone help with this? I really need
to be on the fiber line. Thanks.
