Thankfully not...given:

if (!Page.IsPostBack)
{
dropdown.DataSource = GetSource();
dropdown.DataBind();
dropdown.Visible = false;
}

if this disabled the viewstate, the dropdown's items wouldn't exist on
postback....they are two separate things and aren't tied.
