Passing Session Cookies from ASP to ASP.NET

I've set session cookies in an asp script and need to retrieve the values in
an asp.net application (same virtual directory). I've taken the sample code
in the httprequest.cookies VS.NET2003 help topic to see what's being passed.
I can see all the cookie names but all the values are empty. How can I
solve this? Is there another technique I can use to securely pass values
from asp to asp.net?

use either POST, QueryString or store the values in a DB/File/etc on the
server for retrieval
