Can't start a ASP.NET Web Application project

Hello.
I am using the Visual Studio .NET 2003 enviroment. Whenever I am trying to
begin A ASP.NET Web application I receive the following message:

"The Web server reported the following error when attempting to create or
open the Web project located at following URL:
'http://localhost/WebApplication1'. The server returned an invalid or
unrecognized response".

I am using Windows XP. The IIS was installed before the intallation of the
Visual Studio.

Thanks in advance for your help

So one way to figure out what is going on is to go into your advanced
options and remove the *show friendly http errors. Fire it up and see what
the real error is. Then you can go from there.
