Copy project for next version

We've just released version 2.0 of a ASP.NET project. We will now be
working on 2.1, but need to maintain separate project copies so that a quick
bug fix could be done on 2.0 without having to upload new/untested
functionality for 2.1. I've created a new virtual directory, and copied ALL
the project files into it.

However, the project contains numerous meta files (.csproj, etc) that
contain references to the old Virtual Directory location. Moreover, it
strikes me that to remain sane we should rename the project to reflect the
new version. Is there another way to do this without having to hunt all of
these occurrences down? Suggestions or best practice?

Thanks in advance.
