Web Farm Configuration on Windows server 2003

before i create a new cluster on my Windows 2003 Server, I must firstly
assign a IP address to a my adapter as virtual IP for my cluster?

as articles from some web site, it seem that the Virtual IP address will be
assign to the adapter automately when i finished configing my NLB Cluster?

which is the true?
