object /pipeline directive

Hi
I want to understand the meaning of assinging the "pipeline" value to the scope attribute of the <object> directive at the global.asax
The msdn states that it means the object scope available only at current http request
But since global.asax is a part of any http requests at certain application, I don't undertanthe difference between "pipeline" and "application" values.
