Need file transfer browser control(s)

I need to implement the following download functionality in the
browser. When users request a certain operation from the web
application, certain files are downloaded to their PCs, into a certain
directory (configurable by user on the web application's screen in
user preferences and usually never changed) without prompting use for
save as.

I also need to be able to download multiple files at once through
browser from client's pc without client intervention.

TO achive both of these tasks I need a browser ActiveX. There is are
two active x controls that do this SoftArtisan's FileUP (this one does
the upload one or many files) and XFile which does download to a
folder on local machine. THese controls however are very expensive
(overpriced in my opinion) and I am wondering if there is a cheaper
alternative.

Thanks.
