Best for caching data

I think its generally agreed upon that if your data retrieves data
frequently that doesn't change often then caching this is the best method.
One of the most common examples is a DataGrid or DropDownList that needs to
be populated with the same data. Now once the data has been retrieved from
the DB what would be the best object to store in the Cache? DataSet /
DataTable / DataView ? Or in some cases, like the DropDownList, can you
just cache the control?
