What is the purpose of FormsAuthentication.SignOut()?

MSDN documentation says:

Removes the authentication ticket.

That's it. Where does it remove the authentication ticket from (server /
client?).

Please help.

It removes the cookie that ASP.NET uses to identify the login session.
