Asynchronous requests vs. multithreading

<Newbie disclaimer>

I'm building an ASP.NET/VB port scanner that needs to perform several
"pings" simultaneously on various ports, etc... Obviously, I don't
want this to execute serially, since that would take forever. Is this
something that is best done with multithreading (i.e. thread pooling)
or asynchronous requests (i.e. invoke) or what?

Does anyone know of a good tutorial in ASP.NET/VB? I've seen a couple
in C# and VB WinForms but those don't help too much...

Thanks!

Asynchronous method is a good option. You can start here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ientSocket.asp
