Crystal Reports .NET and VS.NET

I see that VS.NET comes with Crystal Reports .NET, officially "The"
reporting tool for .NET .
But, when trying to use it, it works only in the local machine, not
with a remote webserver.
Wherever I look for documentation (Crystal Decisions, newsgroups, ...)
I always get the same message: you need to upgrade to the version 9.

So is it just a commercial move?
Has anybody used succesfully the .NET version?

If I really need to purchase the upgrade, then I would prefer spending
the money for a more "honest" company!

If you are willing to install the .NET development
environment on your server, it kinda works.

I hate Crystal Reports.

We are using it in production environment so definitely, there is a way to
deploy crystal run-time on production server without installing VS. We have
since upgraded to full Crystal version for different reasons, so I don't
have the instructions handy anymore. But the way you do it is to create a
setup project and only add the crystal modules to it.

Try searching through Crystal web site - they have documents that explain
how to do it in detail.
