IIS6 Application Pool Identity 'invalid'

I'm trying to get the DefaultAppPool to run under the domain account
that we're using for the IIS6 anonymous account, but keep getting the
following warning in the system event log:

The identity of application pool 'DefaultAppPool' is invalid, so the
World Wide Web Publishing Service can not create a worker process to
serve the application pool. Therefore, the application pool has been
disabled.

followed by this error upon making a web request to the server
application:

A failure was encountered while launching the process serving
application pool 'DefaultAppPool'. The application pool has been
disabled.

The account we're trying to use is a valid domain account and is a
member of the local administrators' group.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance...

try to add new application pool and to set the new one Identity. that
works for me. you can change the application pool of application from
the application settings.
