Minimum: You need to have Internet Information Services installed on the
system (comes with the OS), and the .Net platform installed (free download
from Windows Update). For development, you can use anything from NotePad to
Visual Studio.Net.

Don't forget about WebMatrix (Replaces Visual Studio.Net) available free.
(For ASP.Net development only.)

Frank,

Sorry, but I have no idea. I've never used it. However I've seen quite a few
posts about it that say it's a good tool. And since it's free plus it's
developed by Microsoft I'm sure it is a pretty good tool.

Sincerely,

Wow - I've been using FPSE for years, like - since they came out.. on
countless servers, with ASP and ASP.NET.. I've had a couple problems in all
that time - but nothing that wasn't fixable... it's a great product imho

This particular point confuses me. My boss spent several hours on the
phone with microsoft last week. The tech determined that a big majority
of the problem we were having was caused by using Front Page Server
Extensions. He told us that we should avoid using them unless we
absolutely have to develope from a remote machine across then net. On
the local net, we should use file sharing instead.
