Does the whole .tmp, wwroot$, file share debacle, come down to.....

establishing a proper hidden share when you move the default website
location then typing it in everytime a web server fails to be found.

anyways it affected tons of folks and was directly linked (I think) to
VS.NETs affinity for wwwroot$ and turning
http://192.168.0.10/WebApplication1
\\192.168.0.10\wwwroot$\WebApplication1

Was there ever a baseline FAQ's established for this behaviour?
