"no Web server was detected at this URL:

After installing win2K and try to run my ASP application I get the following
error:
"Visual Studio .NET cannot create or open the application because no Web
server was detected at this URL: 'http://localhost/WebApplication1'. Make
sure the Web server is installed and running.

I reinstalled IIS, registered it using aspnet_regiis, and register it with
regsvr32 but no luck.

What should I try?

I *just* had this problem. What I had to do was uninstall IIS and
VS.Net, then remove all Security Groups and local users that were
created to support IIS and Visual Studio .Net.

Then reinstall IIS and VS.Net. It took abotu 2-3 hours to do it all,
but it worked.

Alternatively, I suspect that it's a security issue, but I couldn't
figure it out. If you choose not to reinstall, but you solve it,
pleaes post your solution.

some basic stuff:
o Is the IIS Server started?
o Is the default web site running? check through IIS manager
o Ping "localHost" - responding?
o Surf to "LocalHost" - you should get a page, or Under Construction or
You don't have permission - any of these indicate the service is up.
