Why DOCUMENT and not WebForm1

hello friends,

i am a novice developer in ASP.NET.

i use VS.NET Enterprise Edition.

i inform you that my question may look
silly to you but there is no shame in asking
it to you since i dont know its answer.

when i opened a web application with
webform1 as default page,i tried to set its
properties.

but in properties window, i observed that it shows
properties of DOCUMENT and not of webform1.

also there is one more confusion.

i took a panel control(web forms panel) and put it on
the web form.

i added a few link buttons on it.

now if i click on panel on its edge, in properties window, it shows
peoperties of panel.

but if i click on the mid area of panel, in properties
window, the properties changes to properties of <P>
and various different properties like,

align
class
dir

etc appears.

now why is it so ?
what is the fact behind the scene ?

can anyone tell me that ?

An ASPX page consists of both client-side and server-side elements. The Page
Template (which it looks like you were observing) is basically an HTML
document with some additional tags that contain references to server-side
components, such as the Panel you mentioned. When you look in the Properties
window while in Design view, you are looking at the properties of the HTML
elements in the page. One of the highest-level elements is the "document"
object. The properties window allows you to make changes to the properties
of these elements without having to go into the HTML and find them.

A Panel control renders an HTML element called a "div" which defines a
region on a page in which other HTML elements and text can be placed, and
treated as a unit. When the Panel is invisible, for example, all elements
contained in it are invisible. The "<P>" tag you saw was a paragraph symbol,
and is insertedby default when you create the Panel. The Panel Server
Control has additional server-side properties which you can also set in the
Properties window.
