ASP.NET Server Hardware Planning Guide

Hi,

Is there any guide explains how to calculate the hardware requirement for an
application?
I am looking for a way to have a rough estimate how much CPU power and RAM
do I need for the application that I am going to build.

Thanks,
Max

Hi Max,

I think it is hard to given a way for calculating hardware requirement on
the fly. If you have any existing server machine, suggest you test your web
application on it(concurrent load test). You can record those statistics
such as:

average page response time, CPU usage, memory usage, throughput...

then, you can try measure the hardware requirement by multiple the existing
server's hardware with difference between the above performance results and
your expected result.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Hello We are upgrading our DB server to a new machine and there is a heated debate about what spec machine to use. We have on this server a 15 GB DB that handled around 2-3 million transactions / day, 50% updates and 50& reads roughly, the main goal since it is used by an interactive end user application is speed for updates and reads, it does not need to do any heavy calculations at all during daytime, at nighttime it does a lot of...

I am planning to build a server to be used as a SQL Server and web server. Right now I can only use a single box for both. I have read some threads were dual processors are having problems with some parallel queries and the suggestions of having sql server use a single CPU. My budget is limited so I am debating whether to get 2.6G dual xeon 533FSB or dual P4 800FSB (DRR@ ram) or stick with a speedy single cpu. If I get a dual cpu...

hey guys--i need some expert advice! we have a Dell PE 2650 with 2GHz and 2MB RAM with 2000 Server. on it we have about 6 MSSQL DB's. a couple of the DB's are the back-end for a decent sized web app (5-10 users on average, 20 users at most). many times, the cpu skyrockets on our db server when using the web app. sometimes things timeout, other times not. at this time, upgrading the hardware is not an option. aside from increasing the...

Howdy guys. I have the pleasure of assisting a friend with some changes to his system. One thing he needs is a new SQL setup that will scale. I was thinking of a quad exon box, 32 bit win2003 enterprise, 12 gig ram attached to a SAN via fiber with 15,000 rpm drives. If I need better perfromance, I will add servers on top of the san ...

I am a DB2 DBA that has been asked to become familiar enough with SQL Server in order to become actively involved in its installation, implementation, and to review database backup/recovery procedures. SQL Server will be used by a vendor packaged application. The problem is that we are awaiting word on whether it will be SQL Server 2000 or 2005 we will be working with. I have been told that there are considerable differences between the...

Hello, I am trying to develop a database solution for an organisation in Indonesia. This organization has a number of offices and users throughout the country. They all need to maintain their own data, but I also need to create a central database, to store all of the data, and share data between the individual users. The problem is that the internet connections are not reliable, so a online solution isn't possible. I am planning to...

With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
