Storing binary data in a web page

I am developing using Visual Studio .NET 2002 using ASP.NET and
VB.NET. This is a web-based project which needs to install various
ActiveX components on the users PC. ActiveX is needed because the
project involves automation of Word, Excel etc on the CLIENT side.

I have binary data which is an EXE file stored inside an SQL Server
Image table which I need to pass to the clients browser and create the
original EXE file on their hard disk. I want to store the data inside
a web-page and then use the very large data block as a parameter to an
embedded ActiveX control which will take the data and re-create the
original file.

The area I need help with is storing large amounts of binary data
inside a web-page. Do I use XML? Do I use RegisterClientS criptBlock
and build up a large script which is a function just to return the
data?

Any ideas please?

Mike Bredbury.

But what I really want to be able to do is to update an existing record in a table in MySQL with the path & filename to the image. I have successfully uploaded and performed an update query on the database, but the problem I have is I cannot retain the primary key field in a variable which is then used in a SQL update...

Is it possible to store the data in a datatable in the hard disk instead of the memory? By default, when a datatable's being filled, the table (and data) will remain in memory. Would it be possible to save this data in another medium besides the memory? Everything would stay the same but instead of filling up the datatable by storing it in the memory, i'd be storing it somewhere in the hard drive. Thanks.

Hello! Suppose I have a class that contains only public members of builtin types and a default constructor. Because of the default constructor it is no longer an aggregate and therefore no longer POD, according to my understanding of http://www.fnal.gov/docs/working-groups/fpcltf/Pkg/ISOcxx/doc/POD.html I need to be able to serialize this class to/from a binary file

User wants to go this route instead of storing pointers in the DB and the documents outside. Only time I tried it was with only MS Word docs - and that was a loooong time ago - and it seemed to me like there were performance issues at the time. How about the different types? The MS docs I would expect Access to differentiate and handle appropriately (i.e. .DOC and .XLS).. but how about ..PDF? and can I stash a .TXT document in the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
