Error Binding DropDownList on EditItem Command of DataGrid Control

I am sure this has come up before, but I haven't been able to find an answer as of yet. That said, any help is definitely appreciated!

I have a datagrid populated from a dataset. I have a TemplateColumn with a DropDownList (DDL) in the FooterItemTempl ate that is populated in the Page_Load event using a Sub Routine as the DataSource of the DDL. The FooterItemTempl ate's DDL populates as expected when the DataGrid's DataBind method is called.

<asp:datagrid DataSource="<%# dataset_items %>" >
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateCo lumn>
<ItemTemplate >
<asp:Button id="Button_Edit " runat="server" Text="Edit" CausesValidatio n="false" CommandName="Ed it"></asp:Button>
</ItemTemplate>
<FooterTemplate >
<asp:Button id="Button_Add " runat="server" Text="Add"></asp:Button>
</FooterTemplate>
<EditItemTempla te>
<asp:Button id="Button_Upda te" runat="server" Text="Update" CommandName="Up date"></asp:Button>&nbs p;
<asp:Button id="Button_Canc el" runat="server" Text="Cancel" CausesValidatio n="false" CommandName="Ca ncel"></asp:Button>
</EditItemTemplat e>
</asp:TemplateCol umn>
<asp:TemplateCo lumn HeaderText="Typ e">
<ItemTemplate >
<asp:Label id=Label_Type runat="server" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval (Container, "DataItem.type_ name", "{0}") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
<FooterTemplate >
<asp:DropDownLi st id=List_Add_Typ e runat="server" DataSource="<%# GetTypes() %>"></asp:DropDownLis t>
</FooterTemplate>
<EditItemTempla te>
<asp:DropDownLi st id=List_Edit_Ty pe runat="server" DataSource="<%# GetTypes() %>" SelectedIndex=' <%# DataBinder.Eval (Container, "DataItem.item_ typeID") %>'></asp:DropDownLis t>
</EditItemTemplat e>
</asp:TemplateCol umn>
</Columns>
</asp:datagrid>
My problem is that when I try to populate the EditItemTemplat e's DDL from the same dataset that is used to populate the FooterItemTempl ate's DDL I get the following error:

I have found some information regarding the binding context, but I wasn't able to figure out what I needed to do!
Thanks Again!

Hi all, having a little difficulty binding up a dropdownlist control in a datagrid column. I know I must be missing something Here are 2 methods. One is the DataGrid's ItemDataBound event to catch the grid population event and the other is to populate the dropdownlist I'll start with the method that binds the dropdownlist. As mentioned it is object based and also works fine everywhere but in a template column. I have put in some comments...

I have a DataGrid (WebForm - C#) that has a template column that contains a dropdownlist named "DdlTest" In DataGrid1_UpdateCommand, the lin DropDownList ddlTest = (DropDownList) e.Item.FindControl("DdlTest") enables me to work with ddlTest - with, for example, ddlTest.SelectedValu However, in DataGrid1_EditCommand, ddlTest.SelectedValue returns "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Hi, I'm building a maintenance form for a table and some of the fields are textboxes (i.e name) and some should be dropdowns (i.e country of origin) When a user clicks 'Edit' in the <asp:EditCommandColumn> I want either a textbox or dropdown to appear when I check what is being edited. I thought I could create the dropdown on the fly and add it to the datagrid as below but It's not appearing. I imagined I could populate the dropdown

Pardon my ignorance on this. The below code works, except, when I edit a record and update the two drop downs take the first entry in the dropdownlist if not selected. I'd also like the dropdown to show the current value in edit mode. I'm sure this is a common question. I've reviewed several related post and tried them out to no avial. Some of the offerings in listgroup look right on, but are not clear on where to handle the suggested...

Hello, I am developing with VS.Net 2003 on the asp 1.1 platform. I am a few days new to using a datagrid. I found a nice tutorial and had no problems using an editable datagrid with textboxes and an additional buttoncolumn where I used a delete button to delete a specific row. Once I had finished that, I trnsformed the grid tso it will display a dropdownlist indtead of a textbox. After much grappling, I pretty much have

Hi all, I'm having major problems with a userControl which contains a datagrid. My problem concerns data binding. The Page_Load() procedure calls the DataBind procedure to bind the datagrid to a DataSet. If i include an if statement to prevent the data binding from occuring on a page PostBack in the following way:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
