disable item of dropdownlist in selectedindexchange function

hi!

I want to disable item in dropdownlist,I tried that:
(the ddl is in formview )
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. document.getElementById('<%=FormViewObligationDetails.FindControl("ddlPaymentMethodType").ClientID %>')).childNodes[2].enable=false 
but it do nothing.
any idea?
