where and how to use temparary tables?

I have many rows in my table. I have to select id, first_name, last_name, introduced_by into a temporary table.all the members (names) in the table are not agents. In my table there another field named is_agent. If is_agent field is true that means he is an agent. In the introduced_by field agents_id occur more than once.i have to count the no of times agents_id occurs and display it in the temporary table. Can you help me?
