You have an extra parenthesis after the Request.Form call. Also, wrap apostrophes around the request.form value. And don't forget to sanitize apostrophes in your SQL strings! SQL Injection is the suck.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. query = "SELECT * FROM CONTRACTORS WHERE CONTRACTORS.NAME = '" & replace(request.Form("sltcontractor"), "'", "''") &"'"
  2.

It's also a good idea to print out your query before sending it to the db. Usually this will allow you to catch any bad queries.

Is there any predefined method such as "Parametirized Inputs" as in case of ASP.NET which automatically prevents SQL Injection.???????
