Independent content update in a master page

Hello! I am a newbie at ASP, trying to self teach. I have a web page with a header, body, and side. I have 3 links in the side, and a content placeholder in the body. I am just starting, so the 3 links reference my page, my wife's, and my dads page. It just had a bunch of image links. I don't like the way the whole page (header, and side and background) all flash when a link is clicked. I would like to just change the content part. I am trying to learn the updatepanel in AJAX, but need some advice.

This is the purpose for which frames were invented. Now frames have fallen out of popularity, and I agree that AJAX 's capabilities might be what you want. Either way, both of the tutorials to which I linked will help you understand these fundamental web techniques. Let me know if this helps.
