if loop not working in ASP

Hi,

I've a code similar to this:

<% if rs_qry.eof=true then%>
<td><input type=checkbox name="chk<%=i%>" ></td>
<% else%>
<td><input type=checkbox name="chk<%=i%>" checked ></td>
<% end if%>

but regardles of the eof, only the first td gets executed. Please help me resolving this issue.
