Recordset holding a value that won't print and isn't null and isn't empty

I have a recordset value that's from a database. When I print the value, nothing shows up. However, when I use IsNull or IsEmpty, it returns as false. Does this even make sense? Is there any value that can go through IsNull and IsEmpty AND not actually display a value?

vlong = RS("long")
Response.Write vlong & "<br>"
If IsNull(vlong) Then vlong = "hello?" End If
If IsEmpty(vlong) Then vlong = "hello?" End If
Response.Write vlong & "<br>"

This outputs nothing.

Please check the ascii value for vlong for Null .If it is Null ,it will give you 32. Also, You can check
If vlong ="" then
.................
end if
