localhost 404 error

I get the 404 file not found error message when I try
http://localhost/xxxx.asp

I've created a virtual directory and pointed it to the asp
file and the error message appears.

I've tried creating a new directory and received the same
error message when I pointed it to the new asp file. I
think it's something in the IIS configuration. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jack

If you created a virtual directory, shouldn't you be going to
http://localhost/nameOfVirtualDirectory/xxxx.asp?

Is the port setting correct?
ie http://localhost:81/blah.asp
or whatever port you have specified for the site

Can you see the files in IIS manager?
If so, what happens if you right-click on one and select "browse" (if it
works, note the URL used)?
