Tracing ASP

jt
Just getting into ASP development. Looking how to trace and step thru ASP
when running it.

Is there a tool to do this? Like VB6, you can set breakpoints, F8 step thru,
etc...

Any help to a beginner is much appreciated.

Thanks,
jt

Visual Interdev (part of Visual Studio) has tools that will do this, as long
as you religiously follow all the instructions on setting up your server
correctly..

Since you are just beginning, you may want to skip classic asp and start
with asp.net (dotnet). The newsgroups for that technology all contain
"dotnet" in their names.

You can do this in InterDev, but it gets a bit tricky if you are not using
root (wwwroot by default). It is also a royal pain when you are debugging on
a server that is not local (remote debugging).

Since you're familiar with VB6, you may want to start in ASP.NET. The
..NET groups are those with "dotnet" in them, this group is classic
ASP. Since .NET is the wave of the future, and since many of the
coding practices are similar to your VB experience, you may feel more
comfortable and get a start in an expanding area instead of a
decreasing format.

While you can do some of this in classic ASP with Visual Interdev,
it's not normally practical to try and debug classic ASP this way.

Thanks to all of your replies and recommendations.

Being that I stuck with the present ASP code and because having that code
already coded for it and too much to change over,
I'm going to attempt Visual Interdev.

Thanks again to you all for helping.
