variables

MC
I'm trying to reference a username variable that is saved after the user
logs in. I can reference it using $(Username) in standard html parts of the
page but how do i use it in the script sections enclosed with <% %>

I'm sure this is simple but can't find it anywhere!!
Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it changes anything but I'm trying to build the variable into an
SQL string e.g:

sql = "Select * from orders where username = $(Username)"

This code doesn't work but this is where i need the username variable!

Where is it being saved? As a session variable? Are you sure you're not
coding in PHP?

I'm using ASP / VBScript. The application is a simple library, how can I
store the username so that I don't have to pass it between pages?

At the moment it's passed to the authentication page as a postfield value
and then passed around as an entry in the hyperlink string e.g <a
href='search.asp?Username=Test'>Search</a>

You can use session variables for this.

Session("username") = "test"

Then, to display it on another page (or use it), :

The username is <%=Session("username")%>.
