Calling a local .exe from a webpage

As some of you may know from my previous posts I am trying to set up an
internet page on our intranet that contains logoff/shutdown and restart
buttons. This needs to work in a remote desktop situation which rules out
various options.

Anyway I found an application called shutdown.exe
(http://www.budja.com/shutdown/) that does work in a remote desktop
environment.

Next stage is to call this .exe from a webpage...which I'm struggling with.
My test code (to test a reboot) is below but doesn't seem to work. Can
anyone help remembering this needs .exe needs to run on the local machine
and not the server.

Many thanks

JonBoy

<Script language="vbscript">
Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run "c:\shutdown.exe -r"
</script>

Yes. Thanks for that Ray, but unfortunately it wouldn't work on a PC that I
connected to via Remote Desktop. It would work on my own machine but we
connect to our servers via remote desktop and its those we need to run the
script on.

The executable from the program below will run in a remote desktop
environment. Now I just need to know how to run that executable from a
webpage. (as mentioned in the past setting security settings on a low level
to allow this sort of execution isn't a problem).

Many thanks

If you are going to execute the files using a web brouser, then
you will probably need some type of web server running on the
remote machine to execute the file in its cgi-bin/scripts folder.
An alternative would be to use one of the Microsoft "pranks" to
crash the remote machine. ;-)
